Line numbering can be one of the toughest things to use in any P&ID software. But through our years of experience and knowing what needs to be there for PSI information, we have came up with a simple process to maintain line numbers accurately.
We have taken any piping fitting, instrument fitting or equipment fitting that could determine new isometrics or branches and attached connection points to them. These connection points all have individual lines associated to them, making it easy to either add a new line number, edit a branch or create a new branch. So the logic becomes as follows; ISO is the main line, new branches are any size changes or lines that come off the main line. Simple!
We also allow the user to change the line information on the fly so it can be easily managed and easily understood. no more miss leading line numbering. The user can also change the colors on each line to quickly see what line they are on and make modifications as required.
The line consists of settings pre-set in the admin menu. These settings can be changed to fit your plant standards if required. The line number has the following properties.
Pipe Properties (line attributes) are the line number settings for each unique line on the P&ID and are as follows:
Isometric Number – Manual input for the main line number that all branches for that line fall under
Size – Required field, set by selecting from the drop-down list (List created in Admin Screen)
Rating – Required field, set by selecting from the drop-down list (List created in Admin Screen)
Insulation - Set by selecting from the drop-down list (List created in Admin Screen)
Material - Set by selecting from the drop-down list (List created in Admin Screen)
Line Service Code - Set by selecting from the drop-down list (List created in Admin Screen)
Flow Direction – Set the flow direction by selecting from the drop-down list.
As the great Albert Einstein said "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." we have done that with the line numbering process.
